What is the difference between an online, hybrid, or lecture course?
Online (ONL), Hybrid (HYB), and Lecture (LEC) are the most common instructional methods at Lincoln Memorial University. The definition of each course type is as follows:
  • Online Course
100% of course content, instruction, and assessment are delivered online.
    No campus-based meetings are required.
Online courses must be designated as ONL with the Registrar before the start date of the semester.
  • Hybrid Course
One (1) or more face-to-face class meetings are replaced with online content, instruction, or assessment.
Combines both online and campus-based delivery.
Hybrid courses must be designated as such with the Registrar before the start of the semester.
A limited number of online activities added due to instructor illness, emergency, or other extenuating circumstances during a semester does not constitute a hybrid course.
  • Lecture Course
The majority of course content, instruction, and assessment are delivered face-to-face in the classroom.
Zero (0) face-to-face class meetings are replaced with online instruction or assessment.
May utilize multiple Canvas features: Syllabus, Gradebook, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, Pages, etc.
Lecture courses must be designated as LEC with the Registrar before the start date of the semester.
