Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) Arts in the Gap (AITG) program will host a record 37 events and workshops this summer, expanding artistic opportunities for the community. A grant from South Arts’ In These Mountains initiative has allowed the program to broaden its offerings, particularly in Appalachian arts-focused workshops.
“This grant has expanded our programming to a record number of events,” said Grace Mahieu, Arts in the Gap coordinator. “We are grateful for this opportunity and hope many will join us to create this summer.”
Workshops will cover painting, pottery, printmaking, and bookbinding, along with Appalachian heritage crafts like broom making, herbalism, and quilting. Several sessions have sold out, reflecting strong community interest in hands-on art experiences. A waitlist is available for full sessions.
Arts in the Gap offers workshops for adults and children, providing creative outlets for kids during summer break while teaching new skills.
Workshops and performances will run from May through July, welcoming participants of all ages. Standout offerings include:
Collagraphy Printing for Adults – May 5-6
Photography Essentials Workshop – May 12-16
Appalachian Herbalism Workshop – May 19-23
Quilting for Beginners – June 9-13
Painting with Alcohol Inks – July 14-18
