Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) proudly announces the successful residency match for its Class of 2025 with 97.3 percent of fourth-year students securing positions in residency programs across the nation. This milestone aligns with a historic year for osteopathic medical students nationwide. The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) reported record-high match rates and participation in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)’s Match Week.
Among LMU-DCOM’s successful matches:
"We are incredibly proud of our students and their dedication to serving communities in need," said Lisa Shelburne, director of career services at LMU-DCOM. "I am so excited for them as they take this next step in their medical careers. Our high match rate reflects the exceptional training and preparation our students receive. Their success is a testament to their hard work as well as the support they’ve received from our faculty and clinical partners."
This year’s NRMP Match was the largest in history. More than 52,400 participants competed for 43,237 residency positions. Nationally, the percentage of osteopathic (DO) seniors matching reached a record 92.6 percent. That’s an increase of 3.5 percentage points since 2021. Notably, U.S. DO seniors accounted for 19.4 percent of all residency positions filled. It was the only group of U.S. medical students to see an increase in representation.
The match process is a pivotal moment for medical students and determines where they will complete their residency training. During their fourth year, students apply to residency programs, attend interviews and rank their preferences through the NRMP system. Residency programs also rank the applicants, and the algorithm pairs students with programs based on these preferences. The process culminates during Match Week when students nationwide learn where they will continue their medical training. For those who do not initially match, the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) provides an additional opportunity to secure a resi
dency position.
"The results of this year’s match confirm the hard work and talent(s) of our DCOM students," said Dr. Christopher Loyk
e, dean and chief academic officer of LMU-DCOM. "We are particularly encouraged by the number of students matching in primary care and in Appalachia, where thei
r skills and compassion will have a profound impact on patient care. Our graduates are well-prepared to lead and innovate in their fields, and we look forward to seeing them excel in their residencies and beyond."
LMU-DCOM continues to fulfill its mission of preparing the next generation of osteopathic physicians through rigorous academic training and a strong emphasis on serving rural and underserved communities. With the demand for physicians steadily increasing, the institution remains committed to equipping students with the skills and experience necessary to excel in the evolving health care landscape.
Final placement numbers, which include students participating in additional matching programs and post-match placements, will be released in the coming weeks.
