Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) students recently showcased their leadership and civic engagement skills at the 55th General Assembly of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL) in Nashville.
Guided by Assistant Dean of Students Dawson Delph, M.S, and Dean of Students Elise Syoen, MS.Ed, the delegation participated in various aspects of the legislative simulation, earning accolades and representing LMU with distinction.
TISL is a nonpartisan, student-led organization that offers college students across Tennessee the opportunity to learn about government, develop leadership skills, and participate in a realistic legislative experience. LMU’s delegation engaged in every major component of the event, including Media, Lobbying, the Legislature, and the AMC3 Collegiate Moot Court Challenge.
The LMU delegation included: Bryson Hensley, Aurèlie Msiza, Samuel Kennedy, Aftan Payne, Faith Jacobs, Gabe Horsley, and Reece Horton.
Msiza stood out among her peers, earning the prestigious Best Multi-Media Reporter award for her contributions to TISL Media.
“Participating in TISL allows our students to develop their leadership and public service skills in a hands-on environment,” said Delph. “I am exceptionally proud of this group for their hard work and the meaningful ways they engaged in this experience. They represented LMU with integrity, enthusiasm, and excellence.”
The LMU delegation’s involvement in TISL is a testament to the University’s commitment to fostering civic engagement and leadership. Students participated in legislative debates, presented policy proposals, and gained firsthand experience in the workings of state government. Additionally, the team took part in the AMC3 Collegiate Moot Court Challenge, further honing their analytical and communication skills.
LMU’s participation in TISL underscores the University’s dedication to preparing students to lead and serve in their communities. By encouraging involvement in programs like TISL, LMU ensures that its students graduate with a deep understanding of government and a commitment to making a positive impact.
