Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is saddened to announce the passing of Ken Jones, a former standout on the Railsplitter basketball team and longtime supporter of the University. Jones, who attended LMU for three years, was considered an esteemed alumnus and will always be remembered for his contributions on and off the court.

“The LMU community extends its deepest sympathies to Jones' family and friends during this difficult time,” said LMU President Jason McConnell, DBA. “His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will forever be remembered as an integral part of the LMU family.”

Jones, who played for LMU from 1975 to 1978, was a commanding presence during his time with the Blue and Gray. He appeared in 90 games and left a lasting mark on the program. Despite the passage of time, his name still holds a place in the LMU record books—ranking second in all-time rebounds, second in rebounding average, second in defensive rebounds, and first in offensive rebounds. His performance earned him a place in the LMU Athletes Hall of Fame.

Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Jones was a valued member of the LMU Board of Trustees, where his contributions were highly regarded. His visits to campus were always anticipated by friends and colleagues who cherished his warmth, kindness, and quiet leadership.

Jones was known for his unwavering faith, often sharing words of encouragement and hope with those around him. He regularly sent notes of inspiration and was committed to spreading comfort to others through his strong faith.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 5-8 p.m. at Bliley’s Funeral Home, 6900 Hull Street Rd, Richmond, VA 23224. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m., also at Bliley’s Funeral Home.
