Arts in the Gap (AITG) thanks everyone for their support during this summer's programming. Over seven weeks, from early May to late June, AITG hosted 30 workshops and events, 11 of which sold out.
The programming offered a variety of activities for both kids and adults. Highlights included the "Appalachian Storytelling: Jacktales," where children immersed themselves in Appalachian folktales; "The Pottery Wheel for Teens," offering teenagers hands-on experience with pottery; and an "Appalachian Clogging Performance" by the J Creek Cloggers, who performed traditional Appalachian clogging and shared its rich history.
“We hosted so many amazing events and activities for our community this summer,” said Grace Mahieu, Arts in the Gap coordinator. “We want to thank everyone who spent time with us this summer. We couldn’t have made this program happen without the support of Lincoln Memorial University and our community in Cumberland Gap. Thank you for your support.”
AITG, founded in 2013 to connect the community with Lincoln Memorial University, is for anyone interested in enhancing their art skills. It welcomes artists, adults, and children, offering workshops and events that celebrate Appalachian culture and blend various art forms. Over 1,000 participants have engaged with more than 100 artists through AITG programs.
