People visit the counseling center for a variety of reasons. Many college students received treatment for mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, etc. prior to arriving on campus and may need continuing treatment. Others do not have a mental health diagnosis, but have discovered that life is presenting more challenges than they feel they are equipped to handle. Counseling provides a safe place to discuss the issues you are facing and can help you find healthy ways to cope with them. Students frequently seek counseling to address: feelings of sadness that won't go away, feelings of homesickness that are interfering with their social life or school work, roommate conflicts, dating issues, overwhelming stress and/or anxiety, eating disorders, low self-esteem, parental issues, social anxiety, alcohol/drug related issues, and anger control.
