Make your passion a career with a Bachelor of Arts in Art degree from Lincoln Memorial University! In this program, you will not only study the arts and advance your skill and technique as an artist, but you'll also learn the history of art in order to better understand artistic expression historically and in the context of our contemporary world.
In advanced art courses like Art 2D Painting and Drawing and Art 3D Ceramics, you will be encouraged to expand your foundational communication and critical thinking skills in a globalized and visual world. To ensure that you can make the most of your time as an art major, we strive to maintain small class sizes (14 students per class on average) so that you can build lasting relationships and learn life-long lessons.
The Art program at LMU has facilities in historic Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, only a few minutes' drive from our main campus. LMU's facilities include:
You will have the opportunity to start exhibiting your work during your first year in the LMU Student Art Exhibitions. The foundation of visual and creative work you build will ultimately culminate in a solo exhibition, installed professionally and open to the public, indicating your entrance into the professional art world!
We also offer a variety of educational opportunities beyond the classroom setting. During your time here, you can get involved with LMU's Arts in the Gap program and intern during the summer in a nationally recognized arts program. Past student interns gained enough experience that they were able to teach workshops with the AITG programs. You will even have the opportunity to engage in the cultural and artistic life in the Tri-State region. Exhibition opportunities often arise with local arts organizations including the Cumberland Gap Artist's Co-Op, the Levitt Music Series, and others.
If you'd prefer to use your artistic passion LMU's pre-professional curriculum in Art Therapy is one of few programs across the country meant to prepare you for taking on graduate-level coursework and a career as a Art Therapy Counselor. Through mentorship with our Art and Psychology faculty, we strive to prepare you to enroll and excel in the top Art Therapy programs.
Regardless of where your creative muse takes you, a degree from LMU's art school will empower you with the tools you need to stand out and succeed.
