Northeast District 2 includes students in Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger, Hancock, Hawkins, and Union counties. 2024/2025 National History Day Theme: Rights and Responsibilities in History
Each year's theme is designed to assist student in considering a topic from any aspect of local, regional, national, or world history. With this focus, students can begin asking questions that their research will help them answer, including how their topic is significant in history. Through competition, students build their research, writing, and presentation skills. Students can also choose the mode of project presentation that best interests them, whether it be through writing a paper, building an exhibit, developing a website, filming a documentary, or through crafting a performance.
Northeast District 2 competition is December 6, 2024, at the Lincoln Memorial University Harrogate campus. Registration opens on October 1, 2024, and closes on October 26, 2024. The day of competition also includes special opportunities to tour the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, Lincoln Memorial University's campus, and lunch. For eleven years, the Clinch-Powell Education Cooperative and the LMU School of Mathematics and Sciences have hosted an annual science fair at the Harrogate LMU campus. The competition typically take place in March and hosts 6th grade student from Claiborne, Campbell, Scott, Hancock, Grainger, and Union Counties. Competitors are chosen from local science school fairs in each of these counties. Through this partnership, CPEC and LMU are promoting STEM activities, research, and the importance of these activities in children's overall education experience.Participating students have the opportunity to view research presentations from LMU undergraduate students and tour campus laboratories.
