Walters Named Director of International Programs at LMU
Lincoln Memorial University has named Dr. Danielle Walters the director of international programs where she will be organizing a community for international students and coordinating study abroad programs. LMU hosts over 100 students from other countries and encourages study abroad through partnerships with schools like the University of Costa Rica and Gannan Medical University in China.
“When I came across a posting for the position of Director of International Programs at LMU I was thrilled,” Walters said. “I was interested in finding a way to use my linguistic and international experience outside of the classroom working actively with the international community, as well as working to make study abroad opportunities available to the students of LMU. I was also excited to move back to the mountains of East Tennessee where I could be closer to my friends and family back home.”
Walters earned her undergraduate degree in French and Spanish at King University in Bristol, Tennessee, where she served as co-president of the King College Diplomat Association and participated in multiple study abroad programs. At graduation, she earned the R.T.L. Liston Award for the highest GPA in her class.
She earned a Master's in French Literature at The University of Tennessee-Knoxville and completed the second year of her master of arts degree while living and working at the Université Charles-de-Gaulle in Lille, France. Walters earned her PhD in Romance Languages (emphasis in French and Spanish literature) from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She has taught French at Belmont University, Lipscomb University and other institutions including the Alliance Française of Nashville. She volunteered teaching English to the immigrant and refugee community in Nashville.
“This is truly a dream job for me, and I am so excited to serve the academic community here,” Walters said. “I think I have been given an incredible opportunity to grow and build our International Programs department from the ground up. I look forward to forming lasting partnerships with universities around the world, to building our capacity for study, teaching, and research abroad, and to creating a warm and welcoming, globally minded, inclusive and diverse environment for our international and domestic students on campus. I also hope to have the chance to get back into the classroom.”
Walters is a Bristol, Tennessee, native who grew up playing the guitar, mandolin and piano and singing with her family. She enjoys performing, playing and singing in her spare time.
