J. Frank White Academy (JFWA) has experienced record enrollment during the pandemic, reaching 200 students in grades K-12 by the end of the fall 2020 semester.

“We are thrilled to have reached this landmark even as we have been dealing with health and safety issues of the virus and remote learning for students,” said Bernie Harrington, director of admissions. “It feels like a vote of confidence from the parents when we see this kind of enrollment growth.”

The 2019-2020 academic year concluded with the JFWA enrollment at 172 students, including 17 graduating seniors. In fall 2020, JFWA celebrated a retention rate of over 92% plus an influx of new students bringing the total enrollment to 200 by January 2021. The Academy had also seen enrollment growth in 2019-2020 because of the addition of the Lower School and grades K-3. The Lower School retention rate from its inaugural year was over 96% as 26 of the 27 students returned to JFWA. In 2020-2021, enrollment more than doubled in the Lower School, which grew from 27 to 58 students. For some lower grades, enrollment was capped and a waiting list was created.

JFWA will begin offering open enrollment in March after current families are given the chance to re-enroll for fall 2021.

“I’m hoping for another year of high retention rates,” Harrington said. “We have wonderful families, and I hope that they continue to entrust us with their children’s education.”

The J. Frank White Academy is a private, college preparatory day school serving grades K-12, located on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University.
