Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) will host the 2025 Virtual Opioid Education Symposium on Monday, April 21, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Themed Moving Away from Opioid Reliance: Interprofessional Perspectives for Compassionate Care, this year’s event will explore the history of opioid use, its impact on diverse populations, and the role of alternative therapies in fostering compassionate, patient-centered care.
"This event will focus on fostering a deeper understanding of the opioid history, the various populations affected, and alternative therapies available through the power of personalized, compassionate care for all," said Dr. Brandy Fuesting, director of interprofessional education and assistant professor of public health at LMU-DCOM.
Fuesting emphasized the importance of empowering health care professionals to rethink substance use disorder treatment through empathy and collaboration. "It is important to empower all health care professionals to reshape the future of substance use disorder interventions and treatment with empathy, innovation, and interprofessional collaboration," she said.
The symposium will highlight how a compassionate response can positively impact the opioid crisis within communities. Attendees will include, but not be limited to, students from osteopathic medical education, physician assistant, family nurse practitioner, pharmacy, and social work programs. Course directors, community leaders, health care partners, and other trained medical professionals are also invited to attend this free event.
