The Lincoln Memorial University-Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) welcomed the 107 students of the Class of 2029 Silver Cohort during orientation January 6.
The Class of 2029 boasts an impressive array of achievements and diverse backgrounds. Among the incoming students, 24.3% hail from the Appalachian region, and 19.4% come from rural communities with populations of 24,999 or less. Collectively, the class has contributed over 51,058 hours of volunteer service to their local communities and completed 33,564 hours of research prior to starting their veterinary education. Representing 80 different alma maters, the class includes six students fluent in multiple languages and 24 students who grew up on working farms, highlighting their dedication and connection to agriculture and service.
“The Class of 2029 represents the future of veterinary medicine,” said LMU-CVM Dean Stacy Anderson, DVM, PhD, DACVS-LA “We are thrilled to have such a talented and diverse group of students who are eager to begin their journey toward becoming competent, confident, career-ready veterinarians. This year’s cohort will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of the profession and continue our tradition of excellence in education.”
The Silver Cohort joins an esteemed tradition of LMU-CVM students who have gone on to serve in various veterinary fields, including private practice, academia, research, and public health. As part of the orientation, students will participate in team-building exercises, professional development sessions, and meet with current students and alumni to gain insights into the veterinary profession.
LMU-CVM, with its hybrid distributive learning model, is one of only a few of its kind in veterinary education. LMU-CVM’s curriculum provides students with real-world, hands-on experience at over 240 veterinary practices around the country. Students spend three years studying on the University’s main campus in Harrogate, Tennessee, with clinical skills and anatomy classes taking place at the DeBusk Veterinary Teaching Center in Ewing, Virginia.
