The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Paul V. Hamilton School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences will host two end-of-semester performances at Duke Hall, showcasing a range of musical styles and talents from students, faculty and community members.
The Jazz and Concert bands will perform on November 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Both ensembles will present a mix of classical and contemporary pieces led by Dr. Ben Bruflat, assistant professor of music. The Jazz Band will feature community member Angela Thornsbury, known for her roles in LMU theater productions, on “Rio De Janeiro Blue.” The Concert Band will perform “Kentucky 1800” a piece featuring regional folk melodies and a medley of songs by the iconic group ABBA.
On December 4, the LMU choir will present its end-of-semester concert, “Christmas Around the World,” at 7 p.m. Led by Dr. Young Kim, associate professor of music, the free performance will feature American holiday classics like “Jingle Bells” and “Breath of Heaven,” as well as songs from various cultures, including “African Noel” and “Amezaliwa Tushangilie,” a Maasai-style carol from East Africa. The program will also include solos, duets and small ensemble pieces.
Both concerts are free and open to the public. LMU’s ensembles feature undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and community members.
