LMU Celebrates Brandt's Research Achievements

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) announces that Laroy Brandt, PhD, professor of Biology and Conservation Biology in the LMU School of Mathematics and Sciences, has received recognition for his contributions to conservation biology with two research publications.

Brandt has co-authored a study titled "Mammal responses to global changes in human activity vary by trophic group and landscape," published in Nature Ecology & Evolution. Across 163 species surveyed in 102 projects spanning the globe, this work used camera trapping to examine mammal responses to changes in human activity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students from Brandt’s Mammalogy class at LMU participated in data collection for this project.

Brandt has also been recognized for his co-authored article titled "Maderas Rainforest Conservancy: A One Health Approach to Conservation," published in the American Journal of Primatology. This article has been acknowledged as the most widely cited article from January 2022 - December 2023 and January 2020 - December 2021. His research highlights the impact of the Maderas Rainforest Conservancy (MRC), a conservation non-profit organization dedicated to preserving biodiversity and fostering sustainable practices in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
