Simms Showcasing Scholarly Activity

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) School of Business, faculty member Dr. Jake Simms is showcasing his scholarly activity with multiple publications and conference presentations in 2024.

 

“Simms' scholarly endeavors underscore LMU School of Business's commitment to academic excellence and impactful research,” said Dr. Kelsey Metz, dean of the LMU School of Business. “His work not only contributes to advancing knowledge in sport management and education but also offers practical implications for improving organizational effectiveness and student experiences within various contexts.”

 

In collaboration with colleagues, Simms contributed to two publications:

 

"Volunteering in an After-School Program as a Socialization, Social and Emotional Learning Experience for College Students" published in Quest, explores the impact of after-school programs on college students' social and emotional development. This study offers valuable insights into career development and interpersonal skills enhancement.

 

"Examining Strategies for Undergraduate Student Volunteer Engagement and Management in a Community-Based Sport-for-Development Program" published in the Recreational Sports Journal, highlights effective strategies for engaging and managing undergraduate volunteers in sport-for-development programs, emphasizing the importance of self-determination theory-aligned approaches.

 

Simms also presented two studies at the Applied Sport Management Association Conference in Knoxville, Tennessee, this spring:

 

"The More Things Change: A Generational Analysis of Interscholastic Athletic Director Roles" delves into the evolving roles of high school athletic directors over the past three decades, shedding light on challenges and coping mechanisms associated with this vital position.

 

"Examining NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Perceptions of Their Athletic Department’s Leadership" explores student-athletes' perceptions of leadership within NCAA Division I athletic departments, offering valuable insights for enhancing the student-athlete experience.
