Hagen receiving scholarship certificate

The Lincoln Memorial University - Richard A. Gillespie College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) has named Katelyn Hagens the recipient of the Kaitlyn DeVries Memorial Scholarship funded by the Bluegrass Animal Hospital. Hagens is a member of the Class of 2027 Blue Cohort.

The Kaitlyn DeVries Memorial Scholarship holds special significance within the LMU-CVM community. Established by the Bluegrass Animal Hospital and Kaitlyn's family and friends, this scholarship honors the memory of Kaitlyn DeVries, a cherished member of the LMU-CVM Class of 2019.

"Kaitlyn was not only an employee of Bluegrass, but also a much-loved friend," said Cristi Moser, DVM, of Bluegrass Animal Hospital. "Our decision to endow this scholarship with a generous donation of $25,000 was driven by our desire to honor Kate's memory in perpetuity. She will always hold a special place in our hearts, and this scholarship ensures that her legacy of compassion and dedication to veterinary medicine lives on."

The scholarship not only commemorates DeVries’ life but also supports current and future students at LMU-CVM. The contribution from the Bluegrass Animal Hospital, along with fundraising efforts such as the annual 5K race organized by current students, bolster the scholarship fund, enabling deserving students to pursue their dreams in veterinary medicine.

DeVries’ life was tragically cut short on October 31, 2016, in a fatal car accident caused by another driver under the influence. Her passing deeply affected her loved ones, the LMU-CVM community, and all who knew her. DeVries’ memory endures through the scholarship established in her honor, ensuring that her passion for animals and her commitment to veterinary medicine continue to make a difference.
