Mechanical engineering students from the Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) School of Engineering toured the SL Tennessee facilities in Clinton, Tennessee on April 10.
SL Tennessee established its facility in 2001, initially focusing on producing chassis products. In 2011, the company expanded its operations by opening a lighting division, specializing in the manufacture of automotive headlights and taillights. The company also manufactures other parts needed in the automobile building process.
The students accompanied Dr. Ryan Overton, dean of the LMU School of Engineering, throughout the facility where they learned about headlight and taillight production, mirror assembly and the assembly of transmission shifters.
Several engineers and technicians discussed the various processes of production including injection molding, annealing, vibration welding, quality control, electrostatic discharge, electroplating, product stress, climate testing and powertrain control modules.
