LMU Social Work Program Turns 50

Lincoln Memorial University's (LMU) Department of Social Work is commemorating its 50th year of academic excellence in conjunction with Social Work Month celebrations.

On March 12, the program hosted a luncheon to honor the remarkable contributions of social workers in both local and broader communities.

Dr. Tracy Mims, an esteemed guest speaker, enriched the event by sharing insights via Zoom into the pivotal roles of social work within families, communities, and organizations.

Program Director Ann-Marie Buchanan, PhD, MSW, LMSW, underscored the program's mission: "Social work exists to uplift marginalized and oppressed individuals, fostering positive change in their lives. This event serves as a tribute to the impactful work of our social workers, inspiring the next generation."

The Department of Social Work, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering high-quality educational experiences. Through a curriculum grounded in professional values, evidence-based theory, and practice, the department emphasizes social justice, community service, and ongoing growth for students and practitioners from diverse backgrounds.
