Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) hosted the 11th annual Science Fair, a collaborative event between Clinch-Powell Educational Cooperative and the LMU School of Mathematics and Sciences. The event took place at the Hamilton Math and Science Building on March 1.
The Science Fair serves as a platform for students to showcase their innovative research and scientific projects. Winners from individual school science fairs across the region competed at LMU, highlighting their talents and contributions to scientific exploration.
LMU Undergraduate science fair project exhibitions were provided by: Joshua Boldon, Chemistry: "Improving Chemical Properties of Tylenol", Spencer Baldwin, Conservation Biology: "Utilizing Presence only Prediction Software to Model Morchella diminutiva Occurrence.", Logan Taylor, Conservation Biology: “Prevalence of the Eastern Hellbender (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis alleganiensis) in Freshwater Ecosystems throughout Harlan County, Kentucky”.
Winners of the Science Fair include Gabriel Barger from Hancock County Middle School (1st place), Sawyer Daugherty from Elk Valley Elementary School (2nd place), Sophia West from Huntsville Middle School (3rd place), Case Richardson from Horace Maynard Middle School (4th place), and Thomas McCabe-Loope from Midway Elementary School (5th place).
Prizes included cash awards: 1st place - $500, 2nd place - $400, 3rd place - $300, 4th place - $200, and 5th place - $100. Additionally, all participants received a $25 gift card.
