The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) School of Business Dean Kelsy Metz, PhD, has welcomed James Simms, PhD, to the faculty of the School of Business in December.
“I am honored to welcome Dr. James Simms to the School of Business,” Metz said. “Dr. Simms demonstrates great enthusiasm for teaching and research, both of which will aid the school in achieving our mission and commitments to the Appalachian region.”
Hired to teach primarily in the undergraduate program, Simms serves as assistant professor of sport management. He joined LMU from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he completed his PhD in recreation, sport and tourism while teaching several courses. Simms has published in peer reviewed publications like Quest and presented at the Applied Sport Management Conference and at the North American Society of Sport Management Conference. His research interests include coaching, leadership and sport development as well as sport at the interscholastic and community college level.
Simms holds a bachelor of science from Western Governors University and a Masters of Arts in sport management from William Jessup University in addition to his PhD. He is active in several professional organizations including the Applied Sport Management Association, North American Society for Sport Management, North American Society for Sociology of Sport, The Academy of Leisure Sciences and Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
The LMU School of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
