The event, sponsored by the Tennessee Association of Physician Assistants (TAPA), brought together practicing PAs and PA students and state legislators.

Students and faculty/staff from the LMU PA programs located in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Harrogate, Tennessee, attended TAPA Day on the Hill on February 21 in Nashville, to advocate on behalf of the PA profession.

TAPA continues to push for modernizing and improving PA practice in Tennessee. Students and faculty/staff met with legislators to discuss the current issues and support TAPA initiatives to achieve these goals. Clinically practicing PAs, faculty/staff, and students from multiple PA programs from around the state took the day off from their clinical practices and academic schedules to come to Nashville to make their voices heard.

Established in 2019, the School of Medical Sciences (LMU-SMS) is home to LMU’s PA program with a primary care focus at the main campus in Harrogate, Tennessee, a PA program with a surgical focus at LMU-Knoxville, the online Doctor of Medical Science (DMS) program, and the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program. The school supports the University’s mission of service to Appalachia and other underserved areas by maintaining high quality medical education and supporting student success.
