Jones Inducted Into LMU Professional Hall of Fame

Rev. Loretta Jones

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) is pleased to announce the induction of Rev. Loretta Maxine Jones into the LMU Professional Hall of Fame.

Jones majored in history and minored in English at LMU. She was active in several campus organizations, including the Wesley Foundation.

In August 1973, Jones worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. From 1977 until her retirement in 2008, Jones was a probation officer in Maryland and Washington, DC. During her second stint in DC, Jones became a member of the National Girls Caucus, working as their program chair from 1993-2007.

While working in the DC Superior Court, Jones recognized a need that would lead to her organizing her own 501c3, Sistas’ Womanhood Training Program that has been used in the DC Superior Court and the DC public schools. The program aims to equip young girls with basic life skills needed in core areas of their lives. Jones continues to facilitate workshops and retreats and serves as a conference speaker in support of her program.

Jones’ mission has always been to serve. Even before she retired, Jones delivered her first sermon and received her license to preach. She was ordained in 2003 and has been serving on the ministerial staff at New Covenant Baptist Church since 2004 where she works with the senior adult ministry and outreach missions. Jones communicates with people around the world through her online ministry and her hands-on mission work in Haiti. She has been active in the Women’s Missionary Union and the American Baptist Women’s Ministry and holds the distinction of serving as the first African American president at the Baptist Convention for Women in Washington, DC.

In 2011, Jones graduated from the John Leland Center for Theological Studies. She has been a blended learning specialist in Washington, DC, since 2013.
