Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) School of Business Dean Kelsey Metz, PhD, in collaboration with University of the Cumberlands Assistant Professor of Business and Director of Graduate Business Programs Daniel Kanyam, PhD, authored a research paper which was accepted and published in the latest edition of the Journal of Marketing Development and Competitiveness (Vol. 17 No. 1 [2023]).
The article entitled “Small Business Social Media Use, Innovative Work Behavior, and Organizational Performance,” quantitatively examines the relationships between social media use, innovative work behavior and organizational performance among small businesses in the United States. Metz and Kanyam developed a theoretical model containing latent variables using the assumptions established by the Resource-Based View Theory and Diffusion of Innovations Theory. Survey data from United States small business employees was collected and subsequently analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).
The study found statistically significant positive relationships between each of the examined variables. Furthermore, the authors made recommendations involving the use of social media by small businesses to improve employee innovative work behavior and organizational performance.
The Journal of Marketing Development and Competitiveness (JMDC) is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal that publishes thought-provoking, in-depth articles that cover the marketing arena and the interface between marketing and firm competitiveness. Articles in JMDC bridge the gap between theory and application. The journal is widely circulated with a diverse readership that includes both practitioners and academics, profit and nonprofit organizations, and government institutions. Although the focus is on marketing it also draws on other disciplines including entrepreneurship, management, economics and finance. JMDC is committed to publishing a broad spectrum of conceptual and empirical articles that make a new theoretical and/or substantive contribution to the field.
