Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) School of Allied Health Sciences (AHS) recently welcomed a class of students from Lenoir City High School (LCHS) for a visit and tour of the facilities.
Jessica Rose, who teaches large animal science and veterinary science at LCHS, accompanied the group. The students had a full day of presentations and tours at AHS and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). AHS Recruitment and Success Coordinator Holly Evans organized the visit.
Evans spoke about admission to the University and specifically to the undergraduate pre-veterinary medicine program. Graduates can earn an Associate of Science in Veterinary Science or a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science at the undergraduate level and can get a head start on a graduate education, she said.
LMU offers the Guaranteed Professional Admission (GPA) program, a unique option that allows high-achieving, highly motivated high school seniors to earn guaranteed acceptance into one of the University’s professional degree pathways upon successful completion of their undergraduate degree at LMU. Each professional program has different benchmarks and requirements, but the University is committed to offering successful GPA program participants a head start on their professional education.

The Veterinary Health Science degree offers qualifying incoming freshmen an opportunity for a direct entry pathway to the LMU-CVM, Evans told the group.
During the students’ visit to AHS, Dr. Matthew Marcum, assistant professor in the Veterinary Health Science and Veterinary Technology Departments, gave a general presentation on the AHS programs and answered questions from the group. He also demonstrated several tools used by veterinary technicians and others in the field.
“Familiarity with LMU is key for high school students and families. When a student can become familiar with the LMU campus, our faculty members, and our programs it takes the worry or fear out of the next step for post-secondary education,” said Dr. Lindsay Haywood, executive director for enrollment services. “Group tours are a great way for high school students to have hands-on experiences, tour campus, hear from a specific program recruiter, and more. We know that the goal is to help students find the right next step in their educational journey. We want to assist them in that work in any way we can.”
