The Lincoln Memorial University-College of Dental Medicine (LMU-CDM) mourns the loss of Dr. Paula Brumit, associate professor of dental medicine.
Brumit received a Bachelor of Science in dental hygiene and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degrees from Texas A&M Health Science Center-Baylor College of Dentistry. Brumit was also a member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology and served on the Board of Governors as Treasurer. She was a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and a Past Chair of the Odontology Section of the Academy. Brumit was the second woman to hold the office of Odontology Section Chair in the 71-year history of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
Brumit lived her life in tireless service to others promoting personal growth and education. She mentored countless dentists working toward the goal of board certification with a generous spirit, thought full nature and willingness to share knowledge, training and experience. Brumit held numerous leadership positions in the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and American Board of Forensic Dentistry. She was on faculty at the Center for Education and Research in Forensics, Fellowship in Forensic Odontology; and, the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine, Forensic Dentistry Fellowship where she taught and mentored aspiring forensic dentists. Brumit was an appointee to the Forensic Science Accreditation Board and to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as a Team Adam Consultant; and she was soon to be appointed Associate Professor at the Lincoln Memorial University-College of Dental Medicine to teach in the Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry Program (DMD).
LMU-CDM has announced the creation of a scholarship in Brumit’s honor. The Paula C. Brumit Scholarship for Professional Advancement is a renewable annual scholarship created to provide dental hygienist the opportunity to develop educationally and professionally toward the completion of their dental degree at the Lincoln Memorial University-College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Brumit is preceded in death this year by her father, Paul Camp. She is survived by her two sons, Justin Brumit of Fort Worth, Aaron Brumit and wife Sarah of Pflugerville, Texas; grandchildren Evelyn and Claire; mother, Lena Camp of Dallas, brother, Brian Camp-Nader and husband Dale of Tonasket, Washington, sister, Kristi Camp of Dallas, and good friend and business partner Kim McDonald of Nocona; as well as countless close friends, colleagues, and students.
