Clubs, Events and Leadership

The School of Mathematics and Sciences emphasize values-based learning, the principles of Abraham Lincoln’s life, and knowledge in support of service to humanity, while advancing life in the Appalachian region and beyond. Our clubs and events directly embody these values through service. Our Students are encouraged to engage in learning that exceeds the boundaries of a classroom and to seek making impacts in their local communities.

Clubs

Chemistry Club

The LMU chapter of the Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society, better known as the “Chemistry Club”, does incredible work in research and community outreach. Comprised of mostly Chemistry and Biology majors, our members conduct local educational presentations, webinars and the LMU Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament.

The Wildlife Society

The LMU Student chapter of The Wildlife Society is a branch of the national Wildlife Society that in the early 1980s. The Wildlife Society is a professional international organization that focuses on management and conservation of wildlife around the world. The Society promotes wildlife science and conservation, recognizes excellence in practice and certifies wildlife professionals.

The Student Chapter of TWS is also recognized as one of the most active student organizations in terms of outreach and community involvement.  The students have an ongoing partnership with the Claiborne County Historical Society and they serve as character actors for the annual Ghost Story Tour of the Old Jail in Tazewell, Tennessee in October.  This is a community fundraiser that supports restoration and preservation of the Old Jail.

The students also participate as volunteers with wildlife management activities around the region with state and federal agencies including deer check stations, bird banding and bird count surveys, educational programming for grade school children.  There is literally an event every weekend when school is in session on campus.

 Wildlife Society Wild Game Dinner

One of Lincoln Memorial's most unique events is the Wildlife Society's Wild Game Dinner. Each spring for the last 30 years,  the Wildlife Society has hosted a huge auction with unique items and even more unique food. This event is open to the community and is attended by LMU students, alums, administrators and community members each year.  More than 100 people usually attend the dinner and auction event each year.  This event raises enough money annually for current students in the LMU Student Chapter to attend the state TN TWS meeting at a very reduced cost, with travel and hotel accommodates paid for by the student chapter.
