Appalachian Studies Minor

Lincoln Memorial University is among the earliest institutions of higher education in Appalachia, and is committed to recognizing and celebrating the unique heritage of the region. The Appalachian Studies Minor provides students with knowledge of Appalachian heritage, history, and culture, and an appreciation of the unique challenges of Appalachian geography and economics.

The Appalachian Studies minor is 18 hours of coursework in six disciplines, plus the opportunity to explore any topic of the student's choosing.

Class Requirements:

ENGL 330 Topics in Diverse and Regional Literatures - Appalachian Literature 3

HIST 370 History of Appalachia 3

GEOG 440 Geography of Appalachia 3

MUSC 467 Music of Appalachia 3

ART 400 Appalachian Art 3

Elective (any course that is of interest to the student, approved by the program director, and includes a research component related to some aspect of Appalachian life).
