Pre-Law Majors

Pre-Law Studies at LMU

What is Pre-Law?

Pre-Law education refers to a diverse range of academic experiences designed to equip students with the foundational skills and knowledge necessary for success in law school and law-related careers. While there is no required major to enter law school, Pre-Law education emphasizes critical thinking, research, writing, and communication skills that are essential for both legal studies and professional practice. Additionally, it serves as a strong foundation for individuals pursuing law-related professions that do not require a Juris Doctor (J.D.), professions such as law enforcement, paralegal, legal administration, court administration, legal librarian, government and other public sector positions, regulatory compliance, and more. Pre-law programs offer valuable preparation for various career paths within the field of law.

Pre-Law Majors at LMU

There are four majors which are explicitly oriented towards preparation for law or legal-related professional studies in the College of Arts and Sciences.  While one is not required to choose one of these, they are most compatible with the existing Pre-Law curriculum.  For some programs, like the GPA and 3+3 early admissions, these majors are required for enrollment.  Curriculum requirements are found at each undergraduate major website.
