Admissions Requirements

Each applicant to the Master of Science (MS) program is evaluated holistically by their chosen program's Admissions Committee. Committee members carefully consider each required element of the application package including interview, science course GPA, cumulative GPA, letters of recommendation and standardized test scores.

  •   Class Prerequisites

    A completed bachelor’s degree from an institution with regional accreditation or equivalent verification in the case of international degrees. 

    Degrees from foreign countries must follow LMU’s policies for certifying international degrees and/or credit. Any transcripts from institutions located outside of the United States must be evaluated by World Education Services (WES) prior to submission to Postbac Cas. Successful completion of the following coursework with a grade of "C" or higher in each course:

     

    Minimum undergraduate course work in the natural sciences and mathematics:

    • Mathematics six (6) credit hours at the College Algebra level or higher
    • Biological Sciences minimum eight (8) credit hours with labs
    • Chemistry 16 credit hours including eight (8) credits of Organic Chemistry or four (4) credits of Organic Chemistry with labs and three (3) credits of Biochemistry
    • Physics eight (8) credit hours of algebra- or calculus-based with labs



    Recommended undergraduate course work (these are pre-requisite courses for certain graduate courses):

    • Probability & Statistics
    • Molecular Genetics
    • Physiology

  •   Grade Point Average(s)

    Students will be considered for admission with GPAs of the following:

    Science GPA 3.0 or better, Cumulative GPA 3.0 or better or evidence of a trajectory of improved academic performance, especially in science coursework.

    If English is not the applicant's native language, the international student must submit her/his official score report from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). This score will also be considered holistically along with the other elements of the application package. The applicant must also display proficiency in spoken English during the video conference or in-person interview. 

  •   Supplemental Application Requirements

    Both verified Postbac CAS application and secondary application must be completed before the application moves on to be reviewed. Secondary application link will be emailed after receipt of verified Postbac CAS application

    Official transcripts from all Colleges or Universities where credits were attempted must be sent and verified by PostbacCAS

    2 Letters of recommendation must include one letter from a science professor. The second letter is the applicants choice of the recommender. Interfolio letters are also accepted. Pre-med committee letters can be submitted in lieu of 2 letters of recommendation. 

    Standardized test score (exempt for VBMS applicants) 

    Oldest MCAT considered is within the last three years - score of 492 and above

    Oldest GRE considered is within the last three years - score of 292 and above with a writing score of 3.5 and above

    *Scores from the Optometry Admission Test (OAT) and the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) will also be considered. 

    Personal Statement must professionally articulate how the MS program will benefit your educational and career goals.

     

    All applicants will be reviewed on a holistic basis. This includes evaluating your non-academic factors such as leadership experience, research and shadowing. The LMU-MS program does not have any minimum cutoffs.
