What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination based on sex in any educational programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. This includes sexual harassment or any acts of sexual misconduct.

Lincoln Memorial University is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all community members and prohibits acts of sexual harassment, including sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

The Office of Title IX also provides reasonable accommodations for pregnant and parenting students.  If you are in need of accommodations due to pregnancy please reach out to the Title IX Coordinator at rebekah.webb@lmunet.edu.

Update Regarding Federal Title IX Regulations (Aug. 1, 2024)

At the end of April, new 2024 regulations for Title IX were released. Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and Florida are all states that have filed suit and have been blocked from implementing the new Title IX regulations at this time.

Current Policies and Procedures in Effect

LMU will continue to use the policies that were implemented in 2020 that prohibit sexual harassment and sex discrimination. Mindful that the injunction could be lifted, in whole or in part, at any moment, LMU is continuing to process Title IX complaints through the policy already in place, but is working on new policy to meet the demands of the new regulations.

The Office of Title IX is Committed to the Following:

  • Policy. The foundation of addressing any Title IX complaint is examining the policies in place and how they apply.
  • Prevention and Education. Our goal is to prevent sexual harassment (including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking), before it happens. We offer educational training and events throughout the school year.
  • Supportive Measures. Our promise is to provide support and appropriate supportive measures to individuals involved in the Title IX process. Supportive measures look very different depending on the situation, and one does not have to engage in the formal process to receive support measures, as this is done to help students eliminate barriers to learning and education.
  • Investigation and Resolution. Our commitments to due process, campus safety, and encouraging reporting guide how we investigate and resolve reports.
  • Patterns and Trends. We will examine campus trends in order to guide our programming and educational efforts.
