Student Doctor Swan Elected to Serve as National Chair of the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents
Daulton Swan, a student doctor at the Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM), Class of 2026, has been elected to serve as the national chair of The Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP).
COSGP, a distinctive entity within the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), is composed of class presidents and vice presidents from all colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) across the United States.
It operates with a mission to represent, empower, and enhance the lives of all osteopathic medical students, serving as their official national representative voting voice.
In his role as national chair, Swan will preside over COSGP, ensuring the organization's mission to foster professional development and leadership among osteopathic medical students.
He will also represent the perspective of osteopathic medical students to various professional and educational organizations, including AACOM, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), and other pertinent entities. Additionally, Swan will serve as the liaison between COSGP and affiliates of AACOM.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Swan stated, "I am beyond excited to step into the incredible role of National Chair. When I joined COSGP, I was unsure of how a medical student could affect a massive organization like AACOM. Being part of this organization has shown me the impact that a single individual can make."
Swan acknowledged the inspiration he drew from his predecessor's dedication to advocating for students' interests in medical education. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received from various quarters including friends, faculty, administration, and his wife, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in his journey.
In addition to his responsibilities with COSGP, Swan is actively involved in several student groups, including serving as education liaison for the Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO), executive president of the Student Government Association (SGA), and student ambassador for LMU-DCOM.
"I feel blessed to have this role and to work with the other incredible student leaders on my team. I eagerly anticipate embracing the challenges inherent in this role while relishing the moments of triumph and fulfillment that come with it," Swan added.
