LMU Anticipates Holding In-Person Spring Commencement Ceremonies
Based on rapidly decreasing COVID-19 case counts in the Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) service area, President Clayton Hess has announced that LMU anticipates holding modified in-person commencement ceremonies at the end of the Spring 2021 semester. The University plans to hold modified ceremonies for LMU, LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, LMU Duncan School of Law and the LMU-College of Veterinary Medicine in May contingent on the current COVID-19 situation.
LMU had previously announced all Spring Commencement Ceremonies would be in a virtual format. The University will continue to monitor the local situation and has set the first week of April, as the deadline to make a final decision on the format of the ceremony.
“Our intent is to hold modified in-person ceremonies to celebrate the Class of 2021. However, we recognize that much can change between now and the end of the semester. Because of that, we encourage graduate candidates to monitor their email and University announcements for updates,” Hess said. “I especially encourage all of our graduates to participate in the photography sessions that will take place in March and April.”
The ceremonies will be modified and current Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines including social distancing and masking will be mandatory. A limited number of spectators will be in attendance. Ceremony capacities will vary. Specific policies and ceremony information will be announced in the coming weeks.
The modified ceremonies are scheduled as follows:
- LMU Spring Commencement: split between two ceremonies (one morning, one afternoon) in Tex Turner Arena in Harrogate
- LMU Duncan School of Law Commencement: at 4 p.m. on May 13, 2021, at a venue to be determined in Knoxville
- LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine Commencement: debuting at 10 a.m. on May 15, 2021, in Tex Turner Arena in Harrogate
- LMU-College of Veterinary Medicine Commencement: debuting at 10 a.m. on May 22, 2021, in Tex Turner Arena in Harrogate
Graduates should complete intent to graduate paperwork, pay graduation fees and order regalia. Socially distanced photo sessions will be held in March and April, giving students an opportunity to have graduation photography in caps and gowns. The photos also will be used in the roll call of conferees in the event a virtual format is needed. Professional students who are away from campus completing clinical rotations will be given instructions for photo submissions. All submitted photography is subject to review and approval. Students should monitor MyLMU announcements and their LMU emails for additional forthcoming information.
