Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) and the Claiborne County Library accepted copies of “Patriots to Pioneers – The First Tennessee Volunteers”, a book commemorating the contributions of Tennessee’s early patriots in the American Revolution.
The books were donated by Karen Leatherwood McFarland, registrar of the Martha Dandridge Washington Chapter of the Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution (TSDAR), in honor of her late sister and brother, Pamela and Craig Leatherwood, who shared her pride in their heritage.
The TSDAR developed “Patriots to Pioneers” as part of a national effort to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The book aims to bring these patriots’ stories to life, with each entry meticulously documented to serve as a historical and genealogical resource. From Thomas Goins, John Cabbage, to Joseph Yadon, these individuals are honored for their enduring impact on the nation.
Dr. Katherine Pebworth, Cavett Station Chapter member and professor at LMU, coordinated with McFarland to donate copies to both LMU’s Carnegie-Vincent Library and the Claiborne County Library. This donation reflects the ongoing commitment of TSDAR members to ensure every county in Tennessee has access to this valuable reference.
“We appreciate Karen for her generosity and dedication to preserving our shared history. These books will be treasured for generations to come,” said Pebworth.
