Financial Aid
How to Apply LMU-DCOM Students

  1. If you do not already have a federal PIN, you may register for your PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. You must have a federal PIN before you can file your FAFSA on line.

  2. Complete the 09-10 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible after January 1, 2009. The FAFSA is available on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Lincoln Memorial University FAFSA Code is 003502.

In order for you to complete the FAFSA, you will need your 2008 federal income tax return (or an estimate), W-2 forms, bank statements and investment information. You should retain these documents in a file so that they are readily available if requested at a later date by the Financial Services Office. As a professional student, we do not require your parental information.

  3. You should receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) within two weeks of submitting your completed FAFSA. If you do not receive your SAR within that period of time, you should check the status of your application by selecting “Check Status of a Submitted FAFSA” under the FAFSA Follow-up section of the FAFSA home page. It is important that you review the information on the SAR for accuracy and make corrections if necessary. We will use the expected family contribution indicated on your SAR to determine your eligibility for federal student loans.

  4. If your SAR has been flagged for verification by the federal processing center, you will receive a missing information letter from the Financial Aid Office notifying you of the information required to complete verification. You will also receive an email from the DCOM Office of Financial Services. The information requested should be submitted as soon as possible so as not to delay completion of your financial aid file.

  5. Upon receipt of your financial aid award letter, you should review the amounts awarded on each loan program. Loans will be awarded at maximum eligibility. If you want to borrow less than the amount awarded, make that note at the bottom of the award letter. All awards must be signed and returned to the LMU-DCOM Director of Financial Services.

  6. Complete the Title IV Fund Payment Authorization Form included in your award packet. The completed and signed form must be returned with your signed award letter.

  7. If you are applying for a Federal Stafford Loan, you may review our Recommended Lender List and choose your lender or you may apply through any lender of your choice.

If you decide to use a lender on our Recommended Lender List to apply for your Stafford Loan, the system will require you to complete your Stafford Entrance Counseling before you are able to apply for your loan. Once counseling is complete, go to your chosen lender, apply and esign your master promissory note(MPN). If you decide to use a Stafford lender not on our Recommended Lender List, you should first complete the Stafford/Grad PLUS Loan Information Form included in your award packet. Then go to the website: http://www.mappingyourfuture.org/oslc/index.cfm?act=Intro&OslcTypeID=1 to complete your Stafford Entrance Counseling. Once counseling is complete, go to your chosen lender’s website, apply and esign your master promissory note (MPN).

  8. If you are applying for a Grad Plus Loan, you must follow the same link as in Step 7 and complete Grad Plus Entrance Counseling. Once complete, follow the same procedure as above to apply for your Grad Plus Loan and esign your MPN.
