The purpose of the program in Professional Counseling is to prepare students for effective performance in professional positions in counseling in school (Pre K-12 School) and non-school (Mental Health) settings. The prospective student should consult the Director of the Counseling Program prior to enrollment regarding the appropriateness of this curriculum to her or his situation and professional objectives. The program places heavy emphasis on the interpersonal and helping relationship and requires considerable commitment on the part of the student. Once admitted, the student must consult with his or her faculty advisor concerning proper sequencing of courses and licensure requirements.
The Master of Education in Professional Counseling program at Lincoln Memorial University is delivered in an online-hybrid format to take advantage of the richness of in-person learning and the efficiencies of a digitally delivered curriculum. All in-person classes in the LMU Counseling Program are delivered at the Cedar Bluff Campus of Lincoln Memorial University in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Counseling program combines academic preparation in the areas of counseling and guidance and research with practicum and internship assignments. Emphasis areas are available in PreK-12 School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling.
